If you have a high-energy child, you know how challenging it can be to support them — especially when they enter school! Here at Kids Villa Learning Center, we understand how important it is to channel that energy in ways that brings the child joy, but also allows them to burn as much of it as possible in positive, productive ways. Afterall, our learning centers in Germantown, Urbana, and Waring Station Road are full of many children with boundless energy!

It’s important to give every child the opportunity to exercise every single day, but it’s especially true for children with a lot of energy. Our learning centers have safe outdoor spaces for children to play where we engage them in active games to help them build motor skills and healthy habits. When the weather isn’t nice enough to go outside, we still make sure kids have time to be active indoors as well.

Age-Appropriate Responsibilities

Giving kids responsibilities that are appropriate to their developmental stage gives them an important outlet for their energy and a way of focusing their attention. Whether that’s cleaning up their toys, vacuuming the living room, or helping you cook, they’ll burn off some steam and help you around the house — win win!

Routine

We build routines into our learning center’s daily activities because kids need structure, and that’s especially true when dealing with an energetic child. If you’re getting ready for nap time or bedtime, your child should know what the routine is so that when it starts, they have time to relax and prepare. If they know what’s happening and what’s expected of them, you’ll be much less likely to have to tell them that it’s not time to run around the house or go outside.

Kinesthetic Learning

At our learning center, we make sure we have many different types of lessons to reach a variety of types of learners. We know that not all kids learn best visually, and that can be especially true for kids with a lot of energy. Using something tacktile and hands-on will engage children longer and they’ll be more likely to retain the information being taught.

Avoid Sugar

It might seem obvious, but limiting your child’s sugar intake is a really big part of supporting an energetic child. Sugary food will just amp them up even more and doesn’t set them up for success in places where they need to be more calm, like school.

Start A Sport

Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom, which is why Kids Villa Learning Center offers a variety of extracurriculars, including soccer lessons. Children of all ages can join a sport like gymnastics, dance, karate, or soccer. Playing sports improves coordination and childrens’ ability to focus. Let them choose and hopefully they’ll find something they love and can continue to play for years to come!
