Many children turn five after the Maryland kindergarten cut off of September 1, but that doesn’t mean that they should miss out on the enrichment and learning opportunities appropriate to their age! Here at Kids Villa Learning Center, we offer half-day and full-day programming tailored to five-year-olds. In our kindergarten enrichment classroom, you can trust that your child will receive high-quality, academically challenging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum. More so, our Pre-Kindergarten curriculum emphasizes learning through play, which means that you child will learn foundational skills for elementary school in a fun, engaging, open-ended environment. Kids Villa offers a Kindergarten Enrichment program which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This program is intended for children who turn five after September 1st, and therefore do not start Kindergarten until the following year. This program provides a “jump start” on the developmental, cognitive and social skills needed before entering elementary school. Parents have the option of enrolling their children in this program on a five-day, three-day or two-day schedule. This program is also offered for full days, however spaces are limited.

Programming

Five-year-olds at Kid’s Villa learn by means of establishing foundational skills through reading, math, science, social studies, and the arts. Our Pre-Kindergarten curriculum is used to establish these skills and aligns with the curriculum used in Montgomery County Public Schools. In this class these skills are enhanced and reviewed through the use of practice workbooks and weekly homework. Emphasis is also placed on learning through play and fine tuning social and emotional development skills supported by outdoor play, group activities, center rotations, and group instruction.

Parent Communication

Parents can measure progress through the use of the homework sent home and the examination of workbooks within the classroom. While teachers are available year round for parent-teacher conferences, two are set up throughout the year so that teachers may inform parents of progress and what their child should work on for the remainder of the year.

We believe that open communication with parents is a vital part of child care, and we love when our parents are involved with their child’s learning and development! You know your child best, and we want to support them in their unique developmental journey. After all, what kids learn in our child center is so much more than reading and math. There are physical, social, and emotional milestones that are met across the course of the year, and we want to share and celebrate those with you.
